Day 3 - Phillip Island
Went to the gym, had a great breakfast @ The Hyatt & waited for our pick up for our day excursion out to Phillip Island via Go West.
First stop for the day was The Brighton Beach Boxes. These were used in the early 1900s as changing areas for swimming.
Then off to the Moonlit Sanctuary just outside Melbourne. We saw Koalas awake...which is a rare thing - they sleep for 22 hours in a day! We hand fed some adorable wallabies & kangaroos. There was even a couple wallabies with little baby Joeys in their mum's pouch! Then we watched a little presentation where we learned a lot about the local wildlife that the sanctuary looks to help.
Off we went to a beautiful but frigidly cold & windy beach on Phillip Island. We were brave enough to snap a photo and then the tour went to the chocolate factory instead.
Then for the main event at Phillip Island - The Penguin Parade. Every night the little mini penquins (33cm) of Phillip Island come back home after fishing all day for their families to eat. We walked around the cliffs looking for the little burrows that the Penquins live in. We were able to find a couple. Then we drove over to the beaches where they swim up to. It was amazing to see these Penquins return, who have swam up to 500 miles in search for food, and then to waddle back to their homes. There is no photography allowed, so we took a selfie with a ridiculously large stuffed version.
